Therapy Prep I: Canine Good Citizen

Therapy Prep I is a challenging class, perfect for students wanting to expand their pet’s obedience skills but also great preparation for those hoping to pursue therapy work with Hand In Paw, Alliance of Therapy Dogs, or Pet Partners.

This six-week course includes – but is not limited to – items on the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam, an obedience certification through the American Kennel Club, which examines how well owners handle their dogs in public. This exam is very similar to evaluations done by therapy dog organizations.

Therapy Prep II: Out and About

Therapy dogs must navigate schools, hospitals, and nursing homes, remaining unfazed by shiny floors, bright lights, music playing, and the “big scary”… elevators! Out and About is the second in a series of courses designed to prepare pets for therapy work in the community and all that comes with it.

This course is a four-week adventure! Each week, teams will visit a different location to practice their obedience skills and learn to problem-solve their way through everyday situations and challenges. Out & About is limited to four students and will be facilitated by two of our trainers to ensure that teams receive the proper amount of coaching needed to succeed. (Prerequisite: Therapy Prep I or Impulse Control).
